    "Why...?"

    September 16, 2017

“Why…?”   I am sure you have heard that question a time or two, and most likely have asked it yourself, or at least thought it.  Why is this happening to me?   Why is this happening to my family and friends?  Why doesn't  God  answer my prayers?   Why does God seem to be silent in this matter?  Why does some of God’s people suffer?  Why does God “stop the mouths of lions…quench the violence of fire…some received their dead back to life again” - WHILE - “…others are tortured…scourged…in chains and imprisonments…stoned…?”

(cf. Hebrews 11: 32-39)   Why am I having these questions that form doubts in my mind if I am a Christian?  All of us I believe have wrestled with these questions from time to time.  The prophet Habakkuk addressed God with his struggle - “O LORD how long shall I cry…why do you show me…justice never goes forth…the wicked surround the righteous…”

(cf. Habakkuk 1: 1-4)   Well, long story short, just because we are Christ followers doesn’t mean we have all the answers.  But, as Ben Young points out so well in his book, ‘Room for Doubt’ - “uncertainty can deepen your faith.”  We are not a people without questions and doubts - but we are a people of “faith.”  God can handle your questions and doubts - He promises He will never leave you nor forsake you, and He will see you through!

“The just shall live by his/her faith!” - F.A.I.T.H - “forsaking all, I trust Him!”
