“What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.”
The word “love” appears anywhere from 310 times to 551 times in the bible, depending on what translation you use. Although the word “love” is not penned in every book of the bible, God’s love is certainly expressed in all 66 books that make up the bible - from Genesis to Revelation. God relentlessly pursues a relationship with you - with everyone! This relationship comes through the new birth. Jesus said, “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (cf. John 3: 3) How is one born again? - through the person and work of Jesus Christ - “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (cf. John 3:16)
The bible says “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (cf. Colossians 1)
The bible goes on to say in Colossians chapter 3, “Therefore, put on tender mercies…forgiving one another…as Christ forgave you, so you also must do…above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”
“What the world needs now” - “is love.” Not the love that the world gives, but the love that God gave through Christ. Jesus Christ is the only hope for humankind. Characteristic of the new birth is Jesus loving others through you. If you really love others - point them to Jesus Christ. If you really love others - give them truth and grace. “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
