The first paragraph to the preamble of the Declaration of Independence signed on July 4th, 1776 is probably the most quoted -  

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." 

Our pledge of Allegiance as a Nation - “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic, for which is stands, One Nation, Under God, indivisible with Liberty and justice for all.”

Jesus said, “‘If’ you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31)

I love my Country, but I am worried we have lost our way.  One Nation Under God?   It is only ‘if’ we are under God’s rule (the creator and sustainer of all life) that we can truly experience Life, Liberty and Happiness!  Jesus said that He came to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives…to set at liberty those who are oppressed! (cf. Luke 4: 18-19) 

As a Christ follower I have dual citizenship.  I am a citizen of heaven (via spiritual birth) and I am a citizen of the United States (via physical birth) - both have privileges and responsibilities.

May God help us to find our way and unite as a country, understanding our privileges and responsibilities as law abiding citizens.  May God help us to understand our need for His Son and dependence upon Him!
