“Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try. No hell below us, above us, only sky. Imagine all the people livin’ for today.” (Lyrics, John Lennon)
Very popular song, but a very sad song. Why would you want to imagine there is no heaven? I guess if there is no heaven then one would conclude there is no hell. But, to not exist after this life would be hell.
But the Bible, God’s word tells us different! The good news of the bible is that those who trust in Jesus Christ as their personal savior and Lord, have a hope not only in the present, but a hope beyond the grave -Heaven!
1 John 5 tell us “…that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”
Yes, we have a soul that is going to last for eternity, in one of two places. Where that is, is totally up to what you do with JESUS in this life!
David in psalm 23 penned, “The LORD is my shepherd…surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life; and I WILL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD FOREVER!” - PRAISE THE LORD!
“For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:17)
Our hope is not “I hope so” but “I know so!” - if, you know the shepherd!
Jesus wants to walk with you in this life so that you might experience His unshakable goodness and mercy, regardless of your situation and have the hope of eternity. John Lennon got it wrong, there is a heaven and a hell. We don’t want to just live for today, but for eternity!
