“This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!”
Becky and I took the grandkids to see and experience the Niagara falls over fall break. Such power and beauty, it is so amazing but potentially dangerous too. Over the years thousands have fatally died via accident, stunt, attempted suicide. On the Canadian side of Niagara, you would have about a 20-30 percent change of surviving if going over the edge and zero percent of survival on the U.S. side of Niagara (statistically speaking). But they have guardrails and signs (danger) to prevent accidents from happening. We do well to heed those signs and follow directions when visiting such a powerful natural wonder, if you want to live! The same reason we heed the doctors advice, we desire to live longer and/or healthier, for as long as we can, so we heed the doctors warning and take their advise and follow their recommendations so we can enjoy the promise/hope of a longer and healthier life. It is no different with God, but much more is at stake. We would do well to heed His warnings (danger), follow His instructions and obey His commands therefore embracing/experiencing His promises, present and future.
The bible in second Peter, chapter three warns of coming judgment someday. And warns that day will come sudden and without warning. But with the warning, God gives us instructions. The bible says that He is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” The bible promises, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” - Ro. 10:9, “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” - Ro. 10: 13
Jesus not only saves us for heavens sake but for earthly sake, that is why Peter goes on to say in chapter three, “…what manner of persons you ought to be in holy conduct and godliness…” (cf. 2 Pet.3: 11).
We have boundaries and rules for our children and/or grandchildren because we love them. We want to them be safe, happy and well. We have laws in our country to protect us and for our overall well-being, though they are far from perfect. But God’s law is perfect. Your heavenly Father has a perfect/pure/righteous love for you and I, He is on your side! He has given us free will, but there are consequences in this life for the decisions we make or fail to make, but God never quits loving you. “The Day of the Lord” may be sooner than you or I think. That Day will be a great day for all those that believe, it will be an equally terrible day for those who do not believe. Give you life to Christ today. You will not be sorry in this life nor the one yet to come!
God’s continued blessings and favor!
