Ownership: “The act, state, or right of possessing something.” We like to pride ourselves in owning this or that, but do we really own anything? For one, it can all be taken away tragically through natural disasters, or financial ruin. If you are fortunate to hang on to your possessions, you will eventually give them up someday through death. You see, we are stewards, but we are never really owners. Like a game of monopoly - it all goes back in the box! Sometimes we act as if “we” own the church - but that too, we are only temporary stewards of what God has entrusted to us. The bible reminds us that Jesus purchased the church of God with His own blood (cf. Acts 20:28) and that “His” church is not made with bricks and mortar and such, but with “foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” (cf. Hebrews 11;10)
This life is temporary. All that we have and acquire is temporary, but God’s church is everlasting! God’s church is made up of all the redeemed - past, present and future - those on earth and in heaven!
We can experience peace in this life knowing God is the owner and that our redemption through Jesus Christ can never be taken away from us!
I pray you have that peace! The bible says that the harvest is plentiful but the labors are few. Church, let us be among those few. Those that are laboring for God’s eternal, everlasting kingdom. Those that are pointing people to Jesus Christ - storing us treasures in heaven.
In His Service,
Pastor Rodney
