    Our Goliath

    June 27, 2015

David and Goliath.  We have all heard the story.  Most of us probably heard the story when we were children sitting in Sunday School or VBS.  It is unfortunate though that we often teach it as just a “kids story” when there is so much to glean from this account, and more important - so much to apply practically today in this “post-modern” society that we live in today.  As we move forward into the future as followers of Jesus Christ, we need to face our “Goliaths” head on just as David did!  Goliath was very intimidating, just as our “Goliaths” are very intimidating.  We all have a “Goliath” in our life, individually and corporately as the church.  The face of Goliath will change, but no less intimidating.  Your Goliath might manifest itself in the form of fear of the future or circumstances outside of your control.  Your Goliath might manifest itself  financially, health related issues, or relational challenges.  I cannot name your Goliath, only you can, but remember the battle is always ultimately of the spiritual nature.  As people of faith, yes, like David we do our part, do what we can humanly do, but remembering we face our Goliath’s “in the name of the Lord”  and remembering “the battle is the Lord’s” (cf. 1 Samuel 17: 45-47).

When the fear of Goliath raises its ugly head we remind ourselves, “…in all these things we are more than conquers through Him who loved us” (cf. Romans 8:37) and  “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (cf. 2 Timothy 1:7 ESV).

    In HIS Service,

    Pastor Rodney
