Anxious; worried; fearful; stressed; perplexed; depressed; undecided; “how did we get here?!”, might be some descriptive words or thoughts for this upcoming Presidential Election, November 8th, 2016.

According to George Barna, Americans are increasingly growing weary of Government and becoming hopeless about the state of the Nation and its future.   Where is God in all of this?  Is God even concerned or involved in who will be our next President?  I would say, “Yes”    The God of the Bible is involved in every aspect of our lives, sometimes we just don’t, or don’t want to recognize Him in our affairs.  The key to understanding our political times is to have a biblical view - an understanding of biblical authority.  The bible says, “For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” (Romans 13:1)   Oh, so we have God to blame! - No.  God’s Sovereignty is not devoid of human responsibility.  We should first of be praying and secondly we should vote.  We have a civil responsibility to participate.   Barna research found that only 36.6 percent turned out for the 2014 election.  We must do our part, and then leave the results with the Sovereignty of God.  Those in places of power and authority are only there as long as God allows it.  When the kingdom split (Judah and Israel) there were more “bad” kings that reigned then there were “good” kings, so its nothing new (“Nothing new under the sun”).  God will ultimately works all things together for good, even when we don’t see it or understand it at the time.  Jesus reminded Pilate, He reminds those in Government and He reminds you and me today, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.” (cf. John 19: 10-11)   Yes, in this disturbing political climate we and find peace knowing God is Sovereign!
