    Freedom from Worrying

    November 11, 2022

“Thank You” to all our Veterans!  Thank you for keeping us safe and free. We realize our freedoms come at a great cost.  We also realize we need a strong military because we have enemies that want to do us harm, not only us but also other countries of the world.  I think we would all agree we wish it wasn’t so, we wish there was peace for all of mankind, a world without war or threats of war.  But we are in a broken world, Jesus Himself said “and you will hear of wars and rumors of wars.  See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” (cf. Matthew 24)  So although we can only mitigate war and not be totally free from it we can be free from fear and worrying.  Just as we have enemies in the physical realm, make no mistake about it, you and I have an enemy in the spiritual realm and he wants to hold you captive to your insecurities.  He wants to hold you captive through your bad habits by those things becoming addictions.  He wants to hold you captive via fear and worrying. But there is one greater and His name is Jesus.  Jesus can will give us freedom from those things that hold us captive, He will give us freedom from worrying!  Jesus said of Himself “…He (LORD God) sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of the sight to the blind, to set liberty those who are oppressed…”

(cf. Luke 4: 18-19)  Jesus posed the question in Matthew 6: 27 “which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”  Oh yes, life gives us much to worry about: our country; world; families; finances; health; relationships; jobs…but Jesus wants to free us from worrying.  Jesus said “therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34)

No, Jesus doesn’t expect us to hide our heads in the sand, He expects us to do our part but at the end of day give all your cares and worries to him and He promises to give you “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

    (cf. Philippians 4: 6-7)
