“For We Know - Blessed Assurance”     2 Corinthians 5: 1-8

 In the words of the apostle Peter, “for this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.  Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you…” (cf. 2 Pet.1: 12-15).  So…as a reminder…there is only one inspired word of God, called the Bible, contained within Genesis thru to Revelation. The bible of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  The bible of the Ten commandments. The bible with Jesus woven throughout the Old and New Testament - that bible!

The Bible` says there is only one King and Jesus is His name.  The Bible says there is only one Kingdom that will last forever, that is the Kingdom of God.  There is only One Heavenly Father, One Savior, One Holy Spirit. The bible says there is only one way to the Father and that’s through Christ.  The Bible says there is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus!

The Bible says there is only One Heavenly Home comprised of all the redeemed, past, present and future!  The bible says, “…God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” 

(1 Jn 5:11-13) - what ‘Blessed Assurance!’

The Brooklyn Church of God is celebrating 63 years as a local body, Sunday, October 4th, 2026.  Many people have come and gone through the doors.  Many have passed on, even in the short 11 plus years I have pastored here.  Pastors have come and gone.  Some things have changed, some things have remained the same.  The one thing that remains, and must remain, is the faith that is founded upon Jesus Christ and the authority of His written word.  Jesus reminds us that heaven and earth will pass away but His words will not (cf. Matt.24:35).

So many things are changing in our world, some for the good, some for the not so good.  So many things we just don’t know or understand.  Knowledge is increasing but we seem to be getting further and further from the truth.  The truth being, God’s promises via His word is the only thing ‘We Know’ for certain.  I for one am glad for God’s word, what ‘Blessed Assurance’ it brings, for the present, future and life beyond the grave -for me that is what homecoming is all about!  “For WE KNOW that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (cf. 2 Cor. 5).

“For we know” - because the Bible says so - what “Blessed Assurance!”

“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…” - Heb.6:19

“I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” - Ps 132:4-5
