Are we living in the last days? Depends on your definition and perspective of last days. A ten your old verses a ninety year old might have a different perspective, although no guarantee the ten year old will outlive the ninety year old. Your perspective might be different for those given a terminal illness verses those given a clean bill of health. Your perspective might be different if you’re in the valley going through a very difficult time verses those currently on the mountain top.
All through time there have been biblical events and present day events that would lead one to believe those events triggered the sign of the last days. Quit honestly, every generation has had those that believed they were living in the last days. In reality, we are all living in the last days. We are all in that “valley of the shadow of death” that the palmist of Psalm 23 speaks about. In light of eternity our time here is very brief, but a vapor, the Bible says.
But I think we all wonder if we are that generation that will be alive when Jesus comes back? The disciples themselves asked Jesus “what will be the sign of Your coming, and the end of the age?” (cf. Matthew 24)
Jesus responded in that passage that there would be signs of His coming but said “not to be troubled; for all these things must take place, but the end is not yet…all these are the beginning of sorrow.” Jesus was also very clear “but of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven but My Father only.” Are we living in the last days? - maybe - maybe not, we simply do not know for sure, but it sure seems like it when you see all that is going on in our culture today. Paul gives us some further signs of the times in 2 Timothy chapter 3, but we still really don’t know. How do I end this lengthy post? I would encourage us all to live every day to the fullest. To live every day as if it may be your last, because it just might be. Most importantly, I would encourage us to live in light of eternity - living every day knowing “whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (cf. Romans 14: 8-9). Do you know?
