    What Do You See?

    July 9, 2026

“What Do You See?!”   Jeremiah 1:4-13

Every passage of scripture has key words and a main theme within its context. Every passage of scripture too has many rich ‘nuggets’ of truth, that is why scripture is not just words printed on a page but they are truly God breathed - the bible is God’s living word to mankind.

Some Key word (s) for Jeremiah 1: 4-13 to me would be: “word of the LORD; I formed you; sanctified you; ordained you; you shall go; whom I send you; whatever I command; you shall speak; I am with you; touched my mouth; what do you see; I see.”

God via the Holy Spirit might speak to you from just one, many or all of those key words, just depends on where you are in life on the day you read.  But regardless, God is speaking and even asking “What do YOU see?!”, “What do YOU hear?!”

Do you see the smoke and hear the noice of our world and liberal church, or do you see clearly through the lens of God’s word?  God is not requiring you and I to have all the answers, if fact if you know someone like that - RUN!  God wants you to approach the scripture with a sincere heart and ask, “God what are you saying to me?”  The point is never to master the text but that the text would master you and I!  Regardless of our feelings,  emotions, circumstances and situations God desires via His Holy Spirit and His word to reign and rule in our everyday lives - that we might see what God sees in us.  That we might see what God sees in others - and that we might help others to see too!  God spoke to Jeremiah “before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you…” (Jer. 1:5) - those words are true of you and me too!  Our roles might be different, but the end goal, the mission is the same - “that others might believe!”  In 1998, the film ‘patch Adams’ played by Robin Williams, was inspired by a true story of a real person Dr. Hunter ‘patch’ Adams.  He was a medical doctor, author, social activist.  He focused on seeing the patient as a whole person rather than just their illness. One well said quote from the film, “if you focus on the problem you can’t see the solution - never focus on the problem look at me!”  I believe Jesus says that to you and me today - focus on Him - not the problem!  I love that chorus “turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” (Helen H. Lemmel)

What do you see?  God help us to see in ourselves and others what God sees and for whom Jesus Christ died and rose again for!  God help us to see clearly, so that we can help others see too!
