“Who am I?” Exodus 3 - 4
I believe we are facing an identity crisis in our country, the church at large and as Christians. We are a Judeo-Christian nation - “One Nation under God!” The church is God’s church, “the body of Christ” sent on a mission to lead others to saving knowledge of Jesus Christ via words, actions and way of life. Christians are “Christ followers.” Life-long followers and learners (disciples) of Jesus Christ via His word and His Holy Spirit.
The statement “we” are facing an identity crisis” is true but it starts with “me” being what God called me to be. The world is too big for me to change, but it starts with God changing “me.” The world is too big for you too, but its starts with God changing you and being what He has called you to be. I believe part of our issues is that we have an identity crisis. We have forgotten who we are and to whom we belong. When God called Moses to go to Pharaoh, promising to free His people from bondage through Moses - Moses had an identity crisis. In himself and His God!
Moses responded at God’s call with: “whom am I?”; “what shall I say?”; “suppose they won’t believe me?”; “I am not eloquent, I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”; “Lord, send someone else”(paraphrased).
You see like us, Moses had an identity crisis, in himself, and His God.
Moses came around, believing God in what He said about himself as a person and believing and trusting in God’s word.
What does God word say about those born again through Christ? - “a new creation,” “beloved,” “chosen,” “ambassador,” “His workmanship,” “fearfully and wonderfully made,” “heir and citizen of heaven,” “a peculiar people,” “holy,” “part of His body!’ Your identity is a gift of grace by your creator via Jesus Christ! Don’t forget who you are and to whom you belong. Feel God’s pleasure in you!
Quote by Scottish Olympic runner and missionary Eric Liddell: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure", a line popularized in the movie Chariots of Fire. For Liddell, running wasn't just a sport; it was a way to experience God's presence and purpose, feeling joy and fulfillment in using the physical gifts God gave him for His glory, rather than just personal achievement.”’
In essence, when you say "when I (fill in the blank), I feel God's pleasure," you're expressing a deep sense of alignment, purpose, and joy in using your body and talents as God intended - “your identity” in Christ! “Who are you?!” Believe what God says about you and change your world by letting God change you!
