“Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.”
- Movie Forrest Gump
There is some truth to that statement, life is ever-changing. The Bible says, “to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the heaven” (cf. Ecclesiastes 3). According to the Bible there is a purpose to our ever-changing lives. Life is purposeful and we serve a purposeful, sovereign God. His desire is that His creation (humankind), you and me, made in His image, would put Him in the middle of our ever-changing lives! God’s greatest desire is to spend an eternity in heaven with you someday, but in the meantime He wants to dwell in the midst of those He loves - you and me. He wants you to experience life to the fullest. He wants your joy to be full and flowing over, but that can only happen as we willfully and intentionally put Him and His will for our lives right in the middle of our ever-changing lives and look to Him for direction.
Proverbs says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” (cf. 3: 5-6)
In the Old Testament God instructed the people to build a tabernacle, a tabernacle of meeting (a covering, a tent, or a home). Why? In short, God was looking for a home. A place to dwell in the midst of those He loved and to journey with them. We live in the New covenant, a covenant of grace (through Jesus Christ) and God still longs to dwell in our midst and journey with us. God loves you so much! He desires to be at the center of your life and to journey with you! The forgiveness of sin is available to all through the blood of Jesus Christ and His greatest desire is to journey with you the whole way!
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19, “do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you…?”
Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3: 20)
Has God found a home in you?
