“Gone with the Wind…and the Current” Read Hebrews 2:1
This I my post Christmas pastor’s desk prior to Christmas, and my last post of 2025. Christmas is a reminder of hope. Hope in the chaos. Hope in the mess. Hope in the trials of this wonderful gift of life. Hope in the anxious and worrisome times. Hope in the uncertainty of the future. Every time I look into my children and grandchildren’s eyes - I see hope. When I look into the eyes of my aging and failing mother - I see hope! Part of my role is to instill hope. The only true hope that I know of is the eternal hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ! Yes, we live in anxious times - but you’ve hopefully read THE book - the BIBLE! We cân read the outcome - we win because Jesus Christ was victorious! As the writer of Hebrews warns us, “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.” We must stand upon the authority and promises of God’s word. The Bible tells us what we must do to be saved. The Bible tells us what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us how to live in our world - our sphere of influence. Yes, God gave us the greatest gift of all - His Son. The gift you give back to the Lord is to live out your faith. Stay in His word. Read and study His word. Sit under the consistent preaching of His word. Assemble regularly with a local body of believers. Jesus said in Matthew chapter 28, verse 20, “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” This coming New Year, those that profess Jesus as Savior and Lord, may we get back to church. May we read our bible each and every day, realizing it is our spiritual nourishment, just as food and water is physical nourishment.
The natural wind and current is a wonderful thing, but it is unstable and unpredictable. Life is unstable and unpredictable. The only thing in heaven and on earth that is stable and predictable - is Jesus Christ and His word!
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…”(Heb. 6: 19).
Merry CHRISTmas & the Lord’s blessing on a New Year!
